'Top' investigates the field between the flatness of a print and the volume of a book or a landscape, back and front, day and night, construction and decay, one and zero.
The front of the book consists of a series of aerial images of a mountainous region. They are actually the result of a game played in a virtual space. The rules are simple: start by creating a rectangle. Shake the points at the corners a bit so they are displaced from their original location. Divide the field in four parts. Repeat this simple cycle over and over, shaking less with every step. After only eight cycles, a complex structure has formed, with a natural landscape-like quality.
